Pakistan to Face India in T20 World Cup Match
The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) turnaround came after appeals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with the Green Shirts now scheduled to meet their Indian rivals in Colombo.
Pakistan had previously withdrawn from the fixture against its longtime adversary India following Scotland's replacement of Bangladesh in the competition.
Bangladesh declined to travel to India citing security risks amid deteriorating diplomatic ties between the neighboring nations.
The men's T20 World Cup runs from Feb. 7 through March 8 across venues in India and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake personally contacted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, pressing Pakistan to proceed with the India matchup on Sri Lankan soil, Pakistani state media confirmed.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul similarly lobbied Pakistan to participate in the group-stage encounter against India.
The BCB subsequently conveyed its "sincere appreciation" to the PCB for its "positive role in trying to overcome recent challenges."
Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC), PCB, and BCB conducted what officials characterized as an "open, constructive and congenial dialogue" on Monday.
Post-meeting, the ICC announced a breakthrough agreement enabling Bangladesh to host an ICC event prior to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2031.
