Pakistan Conducts Nationwide Operations, Eliminates Suspected Militants
The military reported that 26 militants loyal to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in four separate clashes on Tuesday in North Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
An additional eight suspected militants linked to Baloch separatist groups were killed in Zhob district in southwestern Balochistan province. “Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area,” the military statement said.
Meanwhile, four policemen were killed and two others wounded on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen attacked a patrol unit in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to reports citing local security officials. This came a day after two attacks killed seven policemen, including a senior officer.
Pakistan is experiencing a new wave of militant violence, which its authorities blame on neighboring Afghanistan and India—a claim both countries deny. Pakistani forces struck what they described as terrorist hideouts in eastern and southeastern Afghanistan on Sunday.
Afghan officials reported civilian casualties from the strikes and pledged retaliation.
