US, Iran Are Set for Broader Talks in Islamabad—IAEA Chief
Rafael Grossi indicated that the negotiations are expected to go beyond the nuclear file and include topics such as missile programs, Iran-aligned groups, and security assurances for Tehran.
“This time, there will also be missiles, militias allied with the Islamic Republic, security guarantees for Iran on the table,” he said.
Grossi suggested that a temporary arrangement could be achievable, emphasizing that any resolution should avoid military means.
“There are alternative diplomatic plans that would allow both a solution that says that at the moment there will be no more enrichment because the political, military, and trust situation does not allow it; and, in principle, to reassess the issue in five or ten years’ time,” he added.
The remarks come as US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran continue following the start of the conflict on Feb. 28, which has resulted in more than 1,340 deaths, including the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, leading to casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
